City of Sisak – Fortress

Sisak is among the oldest settlements in central Croatia, with evidence of urban habitation dating back to the 4th century BC. Even before signs of urban settlement, the area was inhabited, as archaeological excavations have uncovered prehistoric tools and idol figurines. The Old Town Fortress, built in the 16th century, is a historical landmark where the Battle of Sisak took place on June 22, 1593. The fortress is a zero-category monument. From the Old Town to the center of Sisak, it’s approximately two kilometers by road or 1.5 kilometers via a walking path.
